Update June 2026 - See Photos below
It’s the middle of June, and we are welcoming summer with open arms. We have enjoyed seeing the beautiful spring flowers throughout the gardens of Forest, along with wonderful community events. We had good turn out for the Lambton Film Festival, May 28–31. There was so much excitement and effort happening across the community—congratulations to all involved.
Closer to home at the Forest Carnegie Library Event Centre, we have been fortunate to host several business and social events that have kept the space active and vibrant.
A special note: Forest Travel Agency is now settled in and operating from our location every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Please call 519-786-2329 to visit the team and arrange your travel plans.
The following is a quick overview, as we continue to communicate our story.
The Forest Carnegie Library Event Centre is a restored 1912 heritage building that continues to serve as a gathering place for social, cultural, and small business events within Forest, Ontario. As a designated historic structure, it has been preserved to maintain its architectural integrity while supporting ongoing public use.
As we look to the future, our focus remains on continued stewardship and thoughtful enhancement of the building so it can remain both historically protected and practically accessible to the widest range of community members possible.
We recognize that historic preservation and modern accessibility must often be balanced carefully. As such, any future improvements will require collaboration, planning, and alignment with heritage guidelines and appropriate funding and partnership opportunities.
We welcome dialogue with the community, as well as municipal, provincial, and heritage organizations, along with tourism and community development partners, to explore ways this important historic site can continue to evolve as a welcoming and sustainable community asset for generations to come.
Stewardship & Building Condition
Since acquisition, the building has undergone significant stabilization and infrastructure improvements to support its long-term preservation and safe public use. This has included upgrades to core systems such as plumbing, electrical, drainage, and water management, as well as replacement of windows and improvements to foundational moisture control.
These investments were undertaken to ensure the structural integrity of the 1912 heritage building and to support its continued function as a community event space. While significant progress has been made, ongoing enhancement and modernization remain part of the building’s long-term stewardship plan.
Accessibility & Building Access
Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
As a designated historic building constructed in 1912, the Forest Carnegie Library retains some of its original architectural features, including stair access at the main entrance. At this time, the building is not fully wheelchair accessible.
We recognize that accessibility is an important consideration for many guests and continue to explore opportunities to improve comfort and usability for all users, while respecting the heritage designation of the structure.
In the meantime, we are happy to discuss individual event needs in advance to ensure we provide the best possible accommodation where feasible.
We continue to welcome engagement with individuals, organizations, and partners who have experience in accessibility planning, heritage preservation, or related funding and support programs, as we explore future pathways to improve access for a broader range of community members.
